Frida Kahlo

I went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Walker Museum in Minneapolis a few years ago.  It was the largest collection of her work ever assembled in the same room.  I was so moved- such a powerful story teller, she is one of the most famous Mexican folk artists in history.

She inspires me.  Her life was filled with tragedy, pain, and opposition, yet she held true to herself, continued to create art, and never ever gave up. She was confined to a bed and forced to wear uncomfortable braces for a large portion of her far too short life.

If you haven't seen the movie FRIDA, I urge you to drop everything and watch it!  It came out in 2002- Salma Hayek portrays Kahlo, and it is such a gorgeous movie. The paintings blend seamlessly into scenes.  Please- seek it out.
